Alberta Ferretti Fall 2020 Textile Analysis

The Fall 2020 Ready-to-Wear collections were a mixed bag of influences.  There was a look back at classics like 1980’s, prep-school and skittish plaids mixed with the new full body glittery shine, lots of fringe, and wedding dresses.  Besides the white from the wedding dresses there was also a a saturation of red dresses from many designers and black on black looks.  Wools, leathers, and silks dominated with a few signature polyesters and a growing focus on sustainability taking the stage.

NATURAL FIBER TEXTILES

Alberta Ferretti’s Fall 2020 Ready-to-Wear collection was a mix of 1980’s inspiration and classic fall looks.  Nothing more epitomizes the 80’s style like the black silk bodysuit with its wide shoulders, puffy sleeves, and baggy pants tucked into slouchy boots.  Silk dominated the entire look including the metallic silver and gold brocaded curlicues and the ruffles at the neck.  Even the slouchy boots had silk brocades.

MAN-MADE FIBER TEXTILES

The 1980’s inspiration continued with the light grey polyester suit with large charcoal wool overcoat.  Again, we have broad shoulders and baggy pants tucked into slouchy boots.  The light grey moire polyester fabric with its rippling water pattern and the Nehru collar of the suit jacket makes this a distinctive look.

KNIT FIBER TEXTILES

Knits are always an important part of any Fall collection and Alberta Ferretti is no different.  This time she executes a purple hued color block ensemble highlighted by and oversized ribbed knit wool sweater.  Like in previous looks, baggy pleated pants are tucked into slouchy boots.  The dark purple sweater is in a diagonal ribbed knit with oversized shoulders with additional cap sleeve detail on each sleeve.
